Surreal Life Ends, Back To Reality

The past 10 days carolling with VJC choir has been such an eye opener... It's so surreal to be there again... Suddenly I feel like I'm some yr 1 again carolling like there's no tmr! Especially yesterday and today... Yesterday some of the yr 3s came back for carolling... There was Gab C, Ben Tan, Lucas, Adrian, Joshua, Sheena and Hian Yin... So it was like some yr 3 thingy for the tenors and basses... With Gab C conducting and Ben Tan and me singing Gaudete solo in the superb Ritz lobby, it was just reminiscence of the Christmas week in 04...(No pun intended...Anyway doubt many ppl know about the pun!) It was a chance for redemption... And vindicated I was... Albeit temporarily... Not as good as last yr or 2 yrs ago... But gd enough for 8 days worth of practice and completely almost no choral singing for a yr.... Man the ring was there but weakened...Woah... But still got room for improvement... And Ben Tan was so unflappable... And for tt period of Gaudete it was back to 04... Period.

Today Nelson was there for the reunion... It was short but good! Damn good!!! It was really cool to see all the old and new ppl gelling for tt 1/2 hr! And Jimmy's solo... Oh man... I just got nothing to say... It's damn good and unique... Really "old school" stuff! Antique man... But no drop in standards... It's like some perfect case study for aspiring tenor solos...

Right enough about the solos... Just wanna thank all the peeps that make it possible for this successful carolling... To the juniors who have been so gracious as to accept my presence as an asset and not a liability... To my peeps/peers Chin Leng, Eugene, Gab C, Lucas, Ben Tan, Sheena, Joel Low, and others whom I forget to mention for their guidance, friendship and enthusiasm for choral music and carols! To the seniors for their support... To Mr Kwei for conducting today and showing us the way!

Lastly, thanks for the memories of such a unique run of carolling sessions... From the happy times like today's reunion to the sad like the (secret)... Be it the almost perfect times like yesterday's Ritz Lobby Gaudete to the screw up solo lines also at yesterday's Gaudete...(Hey I was on autopilot la! Ok fine my bad... I was dreaming!:D So unprofessional) Or the almost perfectly pitched O Holy Night on the 23rd to the screwed up jazz pitched It's Beginning To Look Like Christmas on the 23rd too... For the funny times like wrong words in the solo lines (Good King Wencesles looked out, on the feast of Stephen,...) to the downright serious times like almost every other carolling performances... Even the inspirational Jimmy's Gaudete solo to the boring sessions when carolling at Raffles courtyard cos there was nobody to watch us... Whether there are 3 tenors(for 20th to 23rd) or many countless like the reunion...Despite the amateur scene of me conducting(It's my 2nd time la! Cut me some slack!) to the professional conducting of Gab C or Mr Kwei... What a yr for carolling... It has been a mixture of disappointments, screw ups, satisfaction and perfection!!!

And before I comtemplate the reality of working on boxing day... I just wanna wish everyone I know A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year... Just a few random quotes... "Oh that we were there!", "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"(Man we didn't do tt for the reunion:x) and totally unrelated to carolling... "Only the best take their chances!" Given a chance to carol, we all took it...

Hey calvin, i totally agree with u. This whole period of caroling has been short but definitely nothing less than enjoyable. The best take their chances, caroling's an anuual chance. We wielded it perfectly well :) hope to see you for next year chorale's in song concert.
