The First Salvo, The Last Mount

Relative to most of my NS seniors, my first salvo came rather late... Despite the temptation of both the WT and MC options, I opted to use neither but instead utilize honorable methods to fire my first salvo... The first shot to end the period of tyranny and usher in freedom... After all, to quote, "For everything there is a season".

I fired my first salvo on the 5th... An apt day because in 1 month's time this bloody war will be a forgone conclusion. With a strategically placed FFI and 1/2 day Oil, I escaped unscathed and skipped detail that day! Yay!

The next day was even more special. The last mount. Not as significant as the Last Supper but important enough for me personally. From that first mount in late June, it finally came down to this... One more precious weekend down the drain, the last weekend I'll ever waste! I'm not going to go into the specifics, that will come later when I get my statistics right... The most memorable thing was that smile on my face when I awoke that Sunday morning! It must have grew in the middle of the night... Finally no more ungodly hours, no more "3am and the rain is falling", no more nonsense. I just love 8-5... I admit I'm still trying to adjust my body clock! But hey, at least I'm doing it with a smile!

Monday the 8th was spent in some NYDC @ Wheelock place... Wha the coffee was gigantoulous... I had a hard time finishing... Unfortunately the Bratwurst sausages cannot beat the best I've ever tried... Obviously the best can only be found in Germany... Oh how I miss those road side stalls in Bremen back in '04... The good ol' days and Os Justi... Right enough sidetrack. That day was also remembered for the amount of coffee I drank... One can of Nescafe in camp, 1 giant cup in NYDC and 1 toffee ice blended at AMK Mac during BS... Man 3 cups of coffee in the span of 10 hrs. It was no wonder I couldn't sleep till 3 am... Luckily the rain wasn't falling...

The second salvo was more timely than anything... I came back on the 11th for the morning and was shocked to see 4 hrs detail... But how wrong was I when I was saved by the unlikeliest source- A NS survey!!! So it shaved off 2.5 hrs and I went up to do the survey (which included a neccessary detour to the canteen)... After I came back it was time to leave... Of course I needed no second invitation.

As for the remaining salvos... I'm firing them now... Everyday! All my hard earned Oil and leave... But this is my right and I am not letting anyone take it away from me. Period. This is the way the war ends, from the first salvo to the last mount! Alea Jacta Est!
