Form Is Temporary

Class is permanent! A commonly used football cliché. However its applications to everyday life are endless. Take for example today's M-box... I won't go into the details but it's not about the singing. It's about the qieing. Apparently 1 month of freedom has rendered my qieing skills obsolete. Or perhaps it was my reluctance to qie my own friends. Nevertheless I don't think I'll find out soon. Because there won't be a next time. Like I said, form is temporary, class is permanent. I will update my rules of engagement for future reference. Perhaps I have become too soft indeed. Being qie by friends is ok. But too much is too much right? I can feel the dark side calling... And I thought I buried my past the day pink was in vogue.

(Added on 021207. In retrospect, I admit that I might sound harsh and a tad to negative. However let me reiterate that whatever the circumstances, whether being qie by friends or when I'm in the doldrums, it'll always, repeat, always be better than what I've experienced for the past 1 year 10 months. Whenever I'm down, I'll always take heart that it will never be worse than the adversity I've faced. Truth be told, yesterday's circumstances paled in comparison to the worst that I've met. Seriously, being qie by friends is much better than being qie by the enemy. At least you respect your friends. Can't say the same for greenie.)

Another application, albeit even later today. Just a few hours ago, I went to my sec 4D class outing. It was generally fun to see old faces again and of course tease those who haven't ORD/just enlisted guys. Not to mention talking to the guys (and girls) about army (school). Dinner at Breeks was ok too, though a tad little on the serving. But the highlight was during post-dinner. We separated into our factions and went our way. My faction went to eat more (naturally)... And that was where I got qie by the drink seller auntie. Bandung for $1.20, advertised the sign. Cool, thought I. Without ice then. So I could get more drink; I was thirsty. $1.70, demanded the auntie. DEMANDED. Can you believe it? No ice and it's not 10, not 20, not 30 cents but 50 cents more. Luckily I wasn't a 50 cent fan, so I didn't want to make a scene and surrendered the shiny coin. Damn, I kena qie again. What's wrong with me? If I was under green's spell, I would have told her straight I changed my mind and walked off. Man, indeed I'm off form. My qieing skills have deteriorated. But that wasn't evident during the green day(s). No pun to the American band, but my skills were of a respectable standard. Hopefully it's just a case of FITCIP. I really hope so... And to compound my problems, I'm broke after spending on a new keyboard, Xbox 360 controller, Bailey's Caramel and food... At least we made Long Men broke! Forza James!

From makers Infinity Ward of Call Of Duty and COD II fame, comes the latest installment of the series. COD IV is aptly titled Modern Warfare because it deals with- you guessed it! Modern Warfare. Indeed after their 2 successive WWII hits, IW has decided not to continue in the clichéd WWII battles but instead based their latest blockbuster on a plausible scenario which involves communists, terrorists and of course, the nuclear missiles. During the game, you play as either a member of the British SAS and the USMC, and eventually the storylines converge to a climatic and cinematic ending that is blockbuster worthy. The gameplay is unique in a sense that it manages to convey a more gritty and grim scenario, which suits the game well given the bleak and grim scenarios faced by current soldiers. Most shooting games are "clean". There is a generally happy ending after completing the game. But COD IV's ending is grim and "surprising". Compounded by stellar graphics and realistic gun effects, you feel like you're really killing a fellow human being. COD IV also delivers some innovative gameplay. The loading system is unique because instead of the usual "percentage complete" and the bar, the game briefs the player and shows an in game cinematic of the map and the situation with some in game pictures that makes you feel like you are really listening to a real military briefing. This really saves a lot of time and the game always loads immediately after the briefing ends, and even zooming in from the map to the player's eyes. Another innovation is the minigame in the middle of the game which lets players control the guns of a AC-120 gunship, raining death to unsuspecting soldiers below; a la Transformers style. Furthermore the screen is in TV black and white, which adds to the realism and the grimness that death comes from the air and soldiers are killed mercilessly without seeing the blood or even their faces for that matter. The only downside is that the campaign is very short. It has to be played on Veteran difficulty to prolong the game life. However the multiplayer component is deep and exciting and should prolong the game life. All in all, COD IV is the most realistic game right now offering a view on how Modern Wars are fought from the ground and air with the latest technology available. And worthy of a blockbuster status and maybe an Oscar or two.
